The defense ministers of Japan and India have agreed to deepen cooperation between their armed forces. The two sides announced that talks will begin on a new dialog mechanism to be established with the participation of senior military officials. This step is seen as a strategic move against China’s growing military presence in the Indo-Pacific region.

Following the meeting between Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani and Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi, Nakatani announced that joint exercises between the Japan Self-Defense Forces and the Indian military will be increased. According to Japanese government officials, the dialog body envisaged to be established will be responsible for the coordination of all cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries. Speaking at the beginning of the meeting, Nakatani said that regional developments are becoming increasingly complex and uncertain, emphasizing that strong ties between Japan and India have become more important than ever in this environment. Singh, on the other hand, expressed his desire to continue cooperation with Japan in the field of defense equipment and technology.
