European countries are discussing scenarios for the situation surrounding Greenland and possible response measures if the American claims to annex the Danish island turn out to be true.

According to the European bureau Report, this was announced at a press conference in Cairo by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

The European Union firmly adheres to the principle of territorial integrity and sovereignty of countries, which must be respected by all, she said, responding to a question about whether the EU’s restrained reaction to Venezuela could weaken its position on Greenland.

‘The EU and 26 member states promptly issued a statement on Venezuela, which referred to the need to comply with international law. We also discussed these issues with our American colleagues,’ Callas said.

According to her, the US statements on Greenland are causing extreme concern among EU countries, which are discussing possible countermeasures ‘if these threats turn out to be real.’

‘Since Denmark is a good ally of the US, all these statements do not contribute to stability in the world. International law regulates these issues very clearly, and we must comply with it, as it mainly protects small states,’ the head of European diplomacy concluded.
