Modernization of the PPM-1 and PPM-2 loading bridge systems has been completed at Kazakhstan’s Kuryk Port, improving cargo-handling efficiency and transport capacity, according to the Ministry of Transport.
According to Report, the upgrades have accelerated ferry operations and increased the volume of freight that can be transported.
The processing time for rail ferries has been reduced from 18 hours to 12 hours, while the turnaround time for vehicle ferries has been cut from 10 hours to six hours. The carrying capacity of rail ferries has also increased from 40 to 48 railcars.
During the first half of 2026, Kuryk Port handled 884,800 tons of cargo. Of the total, 475,500 tons were transported by rail and 306,200 tons by road. The port’s grain terminal also processed 104,100 tons of grain.
The Ministry of Transport said the modernization strengthens Kuryk Port’s role in the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, while expanding Kazakhstan’s transit capacity.
