Kazakhstan is preparing to commission the second tracks on the 836 kilometre Dostyk-Moyinty railway section.

The infrastructure project is being implemented on the instructions of the Head of State, with the support of the government, Samruk-Kazyna, regional akimats and is very important for the transport and transit potential of the country. The road links Kazakhstan with China through strong trade ties. Its modernisation will increase freight traffic in this direction and improve its quality. It is expected that the capacity of the section will increase fivefold – from 12 to 60 pairs of trains per day.

Construction and installation work on the section began in early 2023. To increase the capacity of the section, about 8.2 million cubic metres of earth were poured, more than 800 kilometres of railway track were laid, taking into account the development and modernisation of 32 stations, and 92 bridges were built. Power supply and communication systems have been modernised. A domestic train traffic control system was introduced.
