Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, who is in New York to attend the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, met with OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ignazio Cassis, who is also Vice President of Switzerland.
Kobakhidze wrote on X that during his meeting with Cassis, they discussed bilateral relations between Georgia and Switzerland and opportunities to further deepen cooperation between the two countries.
“I met with Ignazio Cassis, Vice President of the Swiss Federal Council, Head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs and OSCE Chairperson-in-Office. We discussed Georgia-Switzerland bilateral relations and opportunities to further deepen cooperation between our countries. We also touched upon Georgia’s engagement with the OSCE and our active participation across the Organization’s key areas of work,” Kobakhidze wrote.
OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Ignazio Cassis is expected to visit Georgia in October.
Before Cassis, the position was held by Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, who visited Georgia in October 2025. During her visit, she went to Rustaveli Avenue in central Tbilisi, where she met participants of the pro-European demonstrations that began on November 28, 2024.
Following the visit, Georgia’s Foreign Ministry sent a protest note to OSCE participating states. The Interior Ministry also issued Valtonen a GEL 5,000 fine for “blocking the road.”
At the time, ten countries expressed their support for the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office.
