Milia Jabbour, Lebanese Ambassador to China, said that the relations between the two countries have deep historical roots and have been further strengthened by modern cooperation, noting in particular the importance of “small but meaningful” projects carried out under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Ambassador Jabbour said that relations between Lebanon and China date back 2,000 years to contacts established along the Silk Road, and that these historical ties have laid the foundation for today’s diplomatic relations. “We share the same continent,” Jabbour said, noting that Lebanon was an important stop for Chinese merchants transporting goods to Europe. After the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1971, relations deepened further with the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2017 within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, Jabbour said, emphasizing the importance of “small and beautiful” projects that touch local communities alongside large infrastructure projects.
