Brazil has been able to reduce its dependence on the United States and build strong economic ties with most countries in the world. This will allow the republic to avoid an economic crisis due to US customs duties on Brazilian products, said Head of State Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

This was reported by Report with reference to the local portal Brasil247.

“Today, Brazil is not as dependent on the United States as it used to be. Brazil now has very broad trade ties with the whole world. From an economic point of view, we have many more opportunities,” he said.

According to the president, Brazil understands the value of relations with the US, but at the same time does not intend to yield to the American administration on issues that may affect national sovereignty. The leader emphasised that Washington’s threats will not force the Brazilian leadership to abandon the search for alternative payment instruments with its BRICS partners.

‘I will not give up my belief in the need to create an alternative currency so that we can trade with other countries,’ Lula da Silva said.
