Hungary’s Prime Minister-elect Péter Magyar held a meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

“I had a very constructive and productive meeting with the President of the European Commission. We agreed that, as Prime Minister of Hungary (to take office on 9 May – ed.), I will return to Brussels on 25 May to conclude the political agreement necessary for Hungary and the Hungarian people to receive the EU funds to which they are entitled, amounting to several thousand billion forints, as soon as possible,” he wrote.

Magyar assured that the European Union is not imposing any conditions that would run counter to Hungary’s national interests.

“EU funds will soon begin to flow into Hungary, which will allow us to give a boost to the Hungarian economy and provide everything necessary for a functioning and humane country,” he concluded.

It should be noted that Hungary is in active negotiations with the European Commission regarding the release of up to €17 billion, for which Brussels is demanding that Budapest carry out urgent reforms, particularly within the legal system.
