The Moldovan Parliament has declared a state of emergency in the energy and water sectors due to the threat of rising gas prices and disruptions to fuel and water supplies.
According to Report, the parliamentary session was streamed on the legislature’s website.
“To declare a state of emergency in the energy and hydrology sectors at national level for a period of 60 days, commencing on 26 September 2026,” the resolution states.
During the state of emergency, the National Crisis Management Commission will be able to take decisions that deviate from current regulations to ensure an uninterrupted supply of energy resources to the republic. It will be able to adjust prices, tariffs, excise duties and other charges, as well as obligations relating to energy resources. In addition, the authorities will be granted the right to restrict the consumption of energy resources and water.
From 25 September, the energy and hydrology alert regimes in the republic – which were introduced in July against the backdrop of the Dniester River reaching critically low levels, as well as the onset of a diesel fuel shortage at petrol stations – will be lifted. According to Moldova’s Minister for Energy, Dorin Jungietu, the situation regarding fuel supplies to the country has been relatively stabilised.
