NATO’s leadership spent many years misleading Georgia and Ukraine by promising that they would be admitted to the alliance, while not actually planning to do so, Kakha Kaladze, secretary general of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party and mayor of Tbilisi, told journalists, Report informs.

According to him, Georgia and Ukraine were told for many years that NATO’s doors were open, but representatives of the alliance are now openly saying that their membership is effectively impossible.

For his part, Tornike Pagava, deputy chairman of the Georgian parliament’s Committee on European Integration, said that if NATO categorically refuses to admit Georgia, Tbilisi will have to pursue a multi-vector foreign policy.

According to him, NATO member states, including France and the United Kingdom, are already saying themselves that the alliance does not plan further eastward expansion.
