Washington and Ottawa have intensified their trade negotiations and may reach an agreement in the near future.
According to Report, citing Fox News, this was announced by Kevin Hassett, Director of the White House National Economic Council.
Hassett said that the negotiations had gained momentum and were progressing more rapidly. US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick had been holding talks with his Canadian counterparts throughout the week. Hassett expressed the view that the two sides were very close to reaching a deal.
Earlier, on October 23, US President Donald Trump stated that Canada was making considerable efforts to reach a trade agreement with Washington.
Meanwhile, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney stressed that Ottawa did not intend to rush into a new agreement in exchange for lower import tariffs imposed by the United States.
