US President Donald Trump has announced that tariffs on cars and lorries imported from the European Union will rise to 25% as early as next week.

In his statement, Trump accused the European Union of failing to fulfil its obligations under the trade agreement with the United States.

“I am pleased to announce that next week I will increase tariffs on cars and lorries imported from the EU into the United States, as the European Union is not fully complying with the agreed trade agreement. Tariffs will be raised to 25%,” he wrote.

Trump emphasised, however, that cars manufactured in the US would not be subject to tariffs.

He also noted that new car factories are being built in the country with investments exceeding $100 billion, calling this a record in the history of the industry.

‘Numerous car and lorry factories are currently under construction, with over $100 billion invested – a record in the history of car and lorry manufacturing. These factories, staffed by American workers, will soon open – nothing like this has ever happened in America before!’, the US leader emphasised.
