US President Donald Trump, hours after his inauguration, pulled the country out of the Paris climate agreement. During a rally in front of his supporters at the Capital One sports arena in Washington, D.C., the politician was served with an executive order to that effect.

‘The next decree is to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement,’ the event announced, after which the head of state signed the document.

The Paris climate agreement was adopted on 12 December 2015. It was ratified by the EU and 186 countries, including the US. The document aims to prevent the global average temperature from rising above 2°C by 2100.

In 2020, at the end of Trump’s first presidential term, the US withdrew from the agreement. The head of state explained his decision by the fact that the document ‘imposes unnecessary restrictions that would lead to the bankruptcy of American companies’. However, in 2021, under Joe Biden, the next president, the US returned to the list of countries that adhere to the agreement.
