Turkmenistan has called on member states of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO) to actively strengthen joint energy policies with the aim of enhancing energy security and implementing large-scale infrastructure projects in the region, Trend reports.
Speaking at the 17th ECO summit, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov proposed strengthening the coordination of energy policy, introducing uniform standards and rules for energy resource management, and intensifying cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources.
‘We propose to strengthen the energy policies of member states, coordinate actions in this direction and form a unified approach to the sustainable use of the region’s energy resources,’ Meredov said.
He noted that Turkmenistan has significant opportunities to expand its energy infrastructure and ensure reliable energy supplies to countries in the region. Among the priorities are supporting energy projects with a total investment of over half a billion US dollars and assisting member countries in modernising their energy systems.
