The United States supplied 3.6 million tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to India between January and July, becoming the country’s largest supplier of the fuel.
According to Report, citing The Times of India and data from analytics firm Kpler, India imported 896,000 tonnes of LPG from the US in July alone, up 24% from June.
Combined LPG supplies from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait fell to 5.3 million tonnes in the first seven months of the year amid the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz triggered by the escalation of the US-Iran conflict. Before the conflict, around 90% of India’s LPG imports came from Gulf countries, but their share declined to 60% between January and July.
India’s total LPG imports rose to 1.23 million tonnes in July, the highest level in the past four months. Compared with June, import volumes increased by approximately 7%.
