The European Union and the US are close to concluding an agreement that will impose 15% tariffs on European imports.

According to Report, the Financial Times (FT) newspaper reported this, citing three sources.

According to their information, the agreement resembles the deal with Japan announced by US President Donald Trump and involves the introduction of reciprocal tariffs at the aforementioned rate.

At the same time, as specified in the publication, the parties will agree not to impose tariffs on a number of products, such as aircraft, spirits and medical equipment.

Earlier, Trump announced the introduction of 30% duties on all European exports from 1 August, in addition to the existing 10% tariffs on steel, aluminium and cars from the EU. In response, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced that these tariffs would undermine transatlantic supply chains and called for efforts to reach an agreement before 1 August, regardless of the circumstances. In turn, European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Maroš Šefčovič confirmed that the EU would seek the abolition of US tariffs, but at the same time had already prepared a list of US exports worth €72 billion per year to be subject to retaliatory duties if the negotiations failed.
