On Tuesday, the United States and Qatar announced the opening of a new coordination office at Al Udeid Air Base to strengthen air and missile defence in the Middle East.

According to Report, this was reported by Middle East Eye.

The Middle East Air Defence Coordination Office (MEAD-CDOC) is located at the Combined Air Operations Centre (CAOC). It is designed to improve coordination and integration of air and missile defence efforts among regional partners.

The CAOC, based in Qatar and established more than 20 years ago, currently includes representatives from 17 countries who coordinate the use of military air defence assets in the Middle East region.

Commenting on the launch of the centre, the head of the US Central Command, General Brad Cooper, noted that this was ‘a significant step’ towards ensuring more systematic operation of air defence systems in the region.

The opening of the centre took place at a time when the US is considering options for further action, including military action, against Iran, where mass anti-government protests are ongoing.
