The Greek Shipowners’ Association has demanded a decisive response from the European Union to attacks on Greek tankers in the Black Sea, stressing that no threat to merchant ships should go unpunished.
This was reported by the Athens Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA), as reported by Report.
According to the agency, against the backdrop of growing geopolitical tensions and escalating threats to international shipping, the president of the Greek Shipowners’ Union, Melina Travlou, issued a statement condemning the attacks on commercial vessels and sailors and calling on the EU to respond decisively and in a coordinated manner aimed at protecting human life and freedom of navigation.
“Once again, merchant ships and, above all, our seafarers are unfairly finding themselves at the centre of military and hybrid attacks, as well as asymmetric threats that directly endanger human life, environmental protection and the safety of international shipping. Attacks on merchant ships, including Greek and, accordingly, European ships, which operate completely legally, serving the European Union’s import trade and supply chains, are illogical and violate the law. They represent a complete undermining of the European position itself,” Travlou stressed.
