Turkmenistan’s energy sector is traditionally based on its vast natural gas reserves (about 19 trillion cubic meters), but the country is now pursuing diversification and renewable energy. A key initiative is the Turkmenistan–Afghanistan–Pakistan (TAP) power corridor, involving 220 kV and 500 kV transmission lines to export surplus electricity and enhance regional integration. At the same time, Turkmenistan is investing in renewable energy, including solar, wind, and hybrid projects such as the “Altyn Asyr” solar plant. With over 300 sunny days annually and 4–5 GW wind potential, the country has significant capacity for clean energy development. Cooperation with the UN and international organizations highlights Turkmenistan’s ambition to play a leading role in regional energy security and sustainable growth.
