NATO Military Committee Chair Adm. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone downplayed the recent show of unity by North Korean, Russian, and Chinese leaders at a military parade in Beijing, describing it as a symbolic display rather than a real military alliance. He stressed that the three countries lack interoperability, standardization, and shared tactics, making joint operations impossible. Still, he noted they might seek economic and diplomatic gains from closer ties. Dragone urged the international community to strengthen sanctions and isolation against North Korea over its nuclear and missile programs, while also pressing Russia and China to recognize potential consequences. He emphasized NATO’s growing connections with Indo-Pacific partners, highlighting South Korea’s strength in emerging technologies like AI and cybersecurity as areas for deeper cooperation. He also suggested that NATO-South Korea joint drills could be possible in the future.
