Switzerland has implemented asylum restrictions for refugees from the western regions of Ukraine, effective November 1. According to the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), each application for “S protection status” will now be examined more closely on an individual basis. The SEM stated that if a protection application is rejected because the person arrived from a region where return is “considered reasonable,” a deportation order will be issued. The regions designated as safe include Volyn, Rivne, Lviv, Ternopil, Zakarpattia, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Chernivtsi.
