Although special US tariffs on European goods have been suspended until 1 August, many types of exports from EU countries overseas are already subject to various additional duties.
According to the European bureau Report, this was stated in a statement by the European Council following a meeting in Brussels of EU trade ministers.
The US is already applying some tariffs to the EU, the statement said.
“This is a basic tariff of 10%, additional Section 232 tariffs of 50% on steel and aluminium, and an additional 25% on automotive products. As a result of this US trade policy, around 70% of EU exports to the US are currently subject to various additional tariffs imposed by Washington,” the document notes.
