The European Parliament will consider the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between the European Union and Kyrgyzstan during its plenary session on 8-11 September, the European Parliament said in response to a request from Trend.

‘The draft resolution on the Council’s decision to conclude the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (EPCA) between the European Union and the Kyrgyz Republic was adopted by the Foreign Affairs Committee on 4 June and will be put to a vote by the entire Parliament during the plenary session on 8-11 September,’ the EP said.

It is noted that the draft was adopted by the committee with 56 votes in favour, 5 against and 12 abstentions.

It should be recalled that the political foundations of the EU’s partnership with Kyrgyzstan were laid down in the 1999 Partnership and Cooperation Agreement (PCA). On 25 June 2024, the EU and Kyrgyzstan signed the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement in Brussels. The EPC will open up new opportunities for cooperation, including in areas such as critical raw materials needed for the green and digital transition.
