On April 22, 2025, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping held an expanded meeting in Beijing.
During the talks, the main aspects of Azerbaijan-China relations, including politics, economy, energy, transport, technology, humanitarian relations and international cooperation were discussed. President Aliyev noted that political relations between Azerbaijan and China are successfully developing, the positions of the two countries coincide on many issues. He expressed confidence that the current visit, in particular, will contribute to the further expansion of economic relations between the two countries. The sides also discussed cooperation in international organizations such as the United Nations and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Aliyev stressed that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to developing its relations with the SCO and that this is one of the priority areas in the country’s foreign policy. He also noted the importance of cooperation between the security agencies of the two countries in the fight against terrorism, separatism and extremism. In the economic sphere, investments, participation of Chinese companies in industrial zones in Azerbaijan and cooperation in the field of information and communication technologies were discussed. Aliyev noted that Chinese companies are already active in Azerbaijan’s energy sector and would be pleased to expand this cooperation. At the end of the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with the development of relations between Azerbaijan and China and expressed readiness to further strengthen the strategic partnership.
