First Deputy Speaker of the Milli Mejlis of Azerbaijan Ali Ahmedov met with members of the Italy-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group in Baku on April 29. The meeting was considered an important step towards further strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.
In his speech at the meeting, Ahmadov emphasized the high level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Italy in economic, political and cultural fields. Noting that the relations especially in the field of energy are of strategic importance, Ahmadov described the export of Azerbaijani oil and gas to Italy as the most concrete indicator of the reliable partnership between the two countries. He also noted that Italy’s support to Azerbaijan during the 30-year Armenian occupation was highly appreciated in his country. Salvatore Caiata, Member of the Committee on Environment, Regional and Public Affairs of the Italian House of Representatives, said that the recent bilateral visits at the level of heads of state played an important role in the development of bilateral relations. Stating that cooperation, especially in the construction sector, will make significant contributions to the economy of both countries, Caiata said that the Italian business world is very interested in investment opportunities in Azerbaijan. The sides also discussed the implementation of joint projects in various fields such as science, culture, education and environmental protection. The sides agreed that the development of inter-parliamentary cooperation will contribute to the further deepening of general relations between the two countries.
