Japan to mull role in security guarantees provided to Ukraine: PM Ishiba

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stated that Japan will consider its legal and capability constraints in deciding how to contribute to security guarantees for Ukraine. Japan’s pacifist constitution restricts the use of force to self-defense, limiting overseas actions. Ishiba praised U.S. President Donald Trump’s peace efforts with Ukraine and stressed the importance of achieving an early cease-fire and a just peace. Later, he joined an online meeting hosted by the UK, France, and Germany, emphasizing the need to stop innocent casualties and work toward a lasting peace.
