UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that China’s proposed global initiatives are fully compatible with the UN Charter. He emphasized that they respect multilateralism, support the UN’s central role, promote international cooperation, and encourage peaceful conflict resolution. Ahead of next week’s UN General Assembly High-level Week, which will gather about 150 world leaders, Guterres said the event offers significant opportunities for dialogue and mediation. He plans to hold more than 150 bilateral meetings to urge leaders to engage directly, bridge divides, and seek solutions. Guterres called for this to be a “week of solutions” addressing peace in Gaza, Ukraine, and Sudan, climate action, gender equality, sustainable development financing, and strengthening the United Nations.
