German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham exchanged instruments of ratification in Berlin, thereby formally approving the Kensington Treaty.
According to Report, this was announced by the British Prime Minister’s Office.
It is noted that the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation between Germany and the UK, signed in 2025, officially came into force on 8 October. The agreement provides for the deepening of bilateral cooperation in the fields of defence, the economy, quantum technologies, artificial intelligence, and space exploration. Furthermore, the document provides for the simplification of visa procedures within the framework of school exchange programmes, as well as the development of direct rail links between the two countries.
Bernham and Merz also agreed to step up monitoring and countering of hybrid threats.
It should be recalled that the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation was signed in July 2025 in the London borough of Kensington, marking the largest bilateral agreement between the two countries since the Second World War.
