Chinese Premier Li Qiang stated that China is willing to work with Canada with a forward-looking perspective, aiming to steadily improve bilateral relations, put them on a path of healthy and balanced development, and strengthen win-win cooperation.

Li Qiang made this statement during a telephone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Li recalled that Canada was one of the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China and that relations between the two countries had played a pioneering role in China’s ties with the West for a long time. However, he said that in recent years, relations had experienced serious difficulties due to “unnecessary interference.” Emphasizing that the development of China and Canada is not a threat but an opportunity for each other, Li said that there is no fundamental conflict of interest between the two countries, but rather a tradition of friendship and mutual benefit. Prime Minister Li expressed his hope that China’s development will be evaluated objectively and rationally, and that the two sides should work together for mutual success and prosperity. Li pointed out that there is great potential for China-Canada cooperation, noting that the economies of the two countries are complementary in nature.
