China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) intends to deepen energy cooperation between China and Turkmenistan.

According to Trend’s special correspondent, this was stated by CNPC Chairman Dai Houliang whilst speaking at an international scientific and practical conference in Ashgabat on the theme “Turkmenistan – People’s Republic of China: 20 Years of Strategic Cooperation in the Gas Sector”.

He noted that since the signing of the intergovernmental agreement in 2006, cooperation between the two countries has steadily expanded and has become an important foundation of bilateral relations.

According to him, the total volume of gas supply contracts has reached 40 billion cubic metres per year, and total imports of Turkmen gas to China have exceeded 460 billion cubic metres. The total trade volume within the framework of this cooperation amounted to over 93 billion dollars.

Dai Houliang noted that the gas fields on the right bank of the Amu Darya, developed as part of the Amu Darya Right Bank Fields project, have demonstrated stable operation over the past 17 years, yielding around 190 billion cubic metres of gas.

He also highlighted CNPC’s contribution to the development of the industry, including the introduction of technologies that have enabled a 100 per cent drilling success rate on individual projects and increased well productivity.
