Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan discuss strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation

Marlen Mamataliyev, Speaker of the Jogorku Kenesh, met in Istanbul with Tanzila Narbayeva, Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan, Trend reports.

According to the press service of the Kyrgyz parliament, the parties discussed bilateral cooperation and the development of inter-parliamentary ties.

Mamataliyev noted the special significance of the Kyrgyz-Uzbek partnership, emphasising that the trusting relations between the leaders of the two countries are taking cooperation to a new level. According to him, parliamentary diplomacy plays an important role in this process, and the resolution of border issues contributes to the strengthening of trade and economic ties.

Tanzila Narbayeva congratulated Mamataliev on his election as Speaker and emphasised the importance of further expanding cooperation between the neighbouring and fraternal peoples.

The parties also discussed cultural and humanitarian ties and the growth of mutual tourism. Special mention was made of the respect shown in Uzbekistan for the work of Chingiz Aitmatov.

In addition, the meeting participants touched upon trade issues, noting the need to fully utilise existing potential. In 2024, trade turnover between the two countries reached 1 billion US dollars.
