Uzbekistan and Japan explored new areas of bilateral cooperation

On 16 April, as part of the 2026 Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, a meeting took place between Uzbekistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, Jamshid Kuchkarov, and Japan’s Minister of Finance, Satsuki Katayama, Trend reports.

According to the report, the parties discussed key areas of financial and economic cooperation, emphasising the importance of collaboration in ensuring macroeconomic stability, supporting reforms and sustainable economic growth.

Particular attention was paid to the digitalisation of budgetary processes, strengthening expenditure control, the automation of payment systems, the improvement of the treasury system and the management of public financial flows.

They also discussed prospects for the development of high-tech sectors, including microelectronics and the semiconductor industry, the expansion of research and development cooperation, as well as collaboration in the areas of the ‘green’ economy, trade, investment, energy, transport and agriculture.

Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their interest in further strengthening bilateral cooperation.
