Turkmenistan is considering the possibility of exporting natural gas to Europe via Azerbaijan as part of potential future energy projects.
Batyr Muradov, editor-in-chief of the newspaper “Türkmen Dünýäsi”, made this statement in response to a question from Trend during the official launch ceremony for the fourth phase of development of the “Galkynysh” gas field.
According to him, the fourth phase of development of the “Galkynysh” gas field is considered promising and could involve several countries in the region, including Azerbaijan, depending on the further development of Turkmenistan’s gas sector.
Muradov noted that potential export volumes under such projects could reach around 10 billion cubic metres of gas, emphasising that the final parameters would depend on the implementation of the relevant infrastructure.
The Galkynysh gas field, located in eastern Turkmenistan, is one of the largest in the world. Its reserves are estimated at between 4 and 14 trillion cubic metres of gas. The field was discovered in 2006, and commercial production began in 2013 under the management of the state-owned concern “Turkmengaz”.
