Tino Chrupalla, co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, urged the implementation of a policy of detente in relations with Moscow, stating that it is “desperately needed.” In an interview with ZDF TV channel on November 14, 2025, Chrupalla emphasized the necessity of reaching out to Russia to prevent a major war in Europe, asserting that this approach should guide Germany’s policies. The politician added that he is fighting to “finally embrace peace instead of preparing for war” and reiterated his support for reducing financial aid to Ukraine. Chrupalla’s previous remarks, where he stated he sees no threat from Russia but considered Poland a potential danger due to its refusal to extradite a Nord Stream sabotage suspect, drew criticism even from within his own party.
