A Russian diplomatic source stated that a summit between Russia and the US is definitely necessary, but it must be preceded by thorough organizational and substantive preparation. Speaking to TASS on November 14, 2025, the source noted that the Russian side “carefully reviewed and analyzed” US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s interview following the G7 meeting, particularly his statement about the mutual understanding of the need for preparation. The diplomat emphasized that this preparation was exactly what Russian President Vladimir Putin and US leader Donald Trump agreed upon during their phone call on October 16. The source stressed that the summit is only feasible if the US adheres strictly to the Anchorage agreements and that the practical details of the meeting must be worked out in the spirit of the understandings reached in Alaska.
