South Korean President Lee Jae-myung held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump at 10 p.m. on Friday, June 7.
According to a statement released by the South Korean Presidential Office, the two leaders held comprehensive discussions on the current state and future of South Korea-US relations during the conversation, which lasted approximately 20 minutes. The focus of the conversation was on further strengthening the long-standing strategic alliance between South Korea and the US. President Lee emphasized the importance of defense cooperation, economic partnership, and regional security between the two countries, while President Trump noted that South Korea is an important ally of the US in the Indo-Pacific region. During the phone call, President Trump invited President Lee Jae-myung to Washington for an official visit. It was stated that Lee responded positively to the invitation and that the visit is expected to take place in the coming months as part of the diplomatic program.
