South Korean President Lee Jae-myung held his first official phone call on Thursday with Vietnamese President Luong Cuong. During the call, the two leaders agreed to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between Korea and Vietnam.
Vietnamese President Cuong once again congratulated President Lee on his election victory and expressed his confidence that he would achieve significant successes during his term in office. Presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said in a statement at a daily press conference, “President Lee Jae-myung expressed high appreciation for the remarkable progress in Korea-Vietnam relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1992. He particularly highlighted developments in trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges.” Kang noted that Lee had expressed his strong desire for close cooperation with Vietnam, emphasizing that the two leaders were committed to further deepening their comprehensive strategic partnership. Vietnamese President Cuong also expressed his support for Lee’s vision, stating that Vietnam views South Korea as a reliable partner in its economic growth and modernization process. During the meeting, the two leaders emphasized the importance of increasing cooperation in strategic sectors such as high-speed rail and nuclear energy.
