Chinese Premier Li Qiang emphasized that deepening cooperation between China and the European Union (EU) is of great importance for global economic recovery and improving global governance. Li made this statement during a meeting with European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Thursday.
Prime Minister Li described China-EU relations as “one of the most important bilateral relationships in the world” and stated that strengthening multilateral coordination and promoting openness and cooperation would benefit both parties and the world. ECB President Christine Lagarde noted that continuing high-level contacts and dialogue between the EU and China is extremely important in the current environment of global uncertainty. Lagarde said that the interests of the two sides are intertwined and that they share a common responsibility for global financial stability and the development of international trade. Lagarde also announced that a new cooperation mechanism has been established between the European Central Bank and the People’s Bank of China at the level of central bank governors, and that the first meeting has been held.
