India and China have taken an important step toward improving bilateral relations by agreeing to resume direct air travel, promote people-to-people initiatives, and work on visa facilitation. The agreement was reached during talks held on June 12 in New Delhi as part of the China-India Deputy Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue.
According to a statement by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), during the meeting between Indian Secretary of State for External Affairs Vikram Misri and Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Sun Weidong, the current state of bilateral relations was assessed, and the importance of enhancing mutual trust and maintaining constructive dialogue was emphasized. During the meeting, it was also decided to initiate preparations for the 24th Special Representatives’ Border Meeting between China and India at an appropriate time. Representatives from both countries reviewed the developments in relations since the last meeting held in Beijing in January 2025 and expressed their determination to stabilize and rebuild cooperation.
