The leaders’ summit between South Korea and Central Asian countries, which was planned to be held this year, has been postponed to 2026 following recent political developments in the country. The decision was announced by South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo in a statement to the National Assembly on Friday.

Park mentioned the reasons for the postponement while presenting the ministry’s second supplementary budget of 4.23 trillion won (approximately $3.11 billion) for this year to the Assembly. The deputy minister said, “Considering all circumstances, including the attitudes of Central Asian countries and our country’s domestic agenda, it was not possible to determine a suitable date for this year.” The main development that led to the postponement of the summit was the political turmoil that followed the failed military coup attempt by former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who was removed from office.
