According to Japanese media, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba are preparing to hold a summit in Tokyo later this month, likely around August 23, though the schedule is not yet confirmed. If realized, it would be Lee’s first visit to Japan since taking office in June and would mark the resumption of “shuttle diplomacy” between the two leaders. The two last met in person on June 17 during the G7 summit in Canada. Lee is also expected to visit Washington later this month for his first summit with U.S. President Donald Trump, though that schedule has also not yet been finalized.
