The Ministry of Transport has announced new prospects for infrastructure cooperation with Tokyo. The focus is on ensuring transport links between New Tashkent and the current capital with the future international airport. The Japanese side has been asked to consider the possibility of implementing a project to lay railway tracks and build underground and elevated sections of the metro line.

The negotiations were attended by Deputy Minister of Transport Zhasurbek Choriev and a delegation led by Japan’s Deputy Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Yoshimichi Terada. Representatives of the relevant ministries discussed in detail issues related to attracting investment and expanding bilateral partnership in the logistics sector.

In addition to plans to integrate the metro into the new air hub network, the agenda included the modernisation of the high-speed railway corridor between Tashkent and Samarkand. Experts are discussing the concept of physically separating tracks for freight and passenger trains. This measure is expected to significantly optimise the capacity of the railway.

Following the working consultations, the agencies confirmed their readiness to move on to the stage of substantive implementation of joint initiatives.
