The 22nd China Conference in Cairo was co-hosted by the China-Africa Institute and the Confucius Institute of Suez Canal University in Egypt. More than 200 Chinese and Egyptian scholars, officials and experts attended the forum with the theme “Deepening China-Africa Cooperation to Lead the Modernization of the Global South”. The event was organized to enhance cooperation between China and Africa and provide intellectual support for the modernization efforts of developing countries.
The conference focused on strengthening bilateral relations between China and Egypt, enhancing academic exchanges and contributing to the modernization of developing countries. In light of changing global dynamics, the need to improve the quality and efficiency of China-Africa partnerships was emphasized.
Nasser Mandour, Rector of Suez Canal University, described the event as a platform to “strengthen mutual understanding” between the two countries. “Suez Canal University has maintained a strong partnership with Chinese academic institutions for years,” Mandour said. Hassan Rajab, Director of the Confucius Institute at Suez Canal University, said cultural diplomacy is the “cornerstone” of China-Africa relations. He linked this to Beijing’s Global Civilization Initiative, highlighting the importance of cultural and academic cooperation. Zhou Yunfan, Vice President of the China-Africa Institute, said that developing countries “have a common mission” on the road to modernization. Zhou emphasized the need for closer academic cooperation in this process.
