Kazakhstan and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) discussed the further development of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) in Kazakhstan.
This was stated in a press release from the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan.
According to the ministry, the discussion took place during a meeting between Kazakhstan’s Deputy Minister of Energy, Bakhytzhan Ilyas, and representatives of the EBRD.
As noted in the ministry’s statement, the meeting was attended by Felicity Spors, Director of the EBRD’s Climate Strategy and Implementation Department and Head of the Sustainable Infrastructure Team; Erlan Ramazanov, Deputy Head of the EBRD’s Representative Office in Kazakhstan and Regional Head of Energy for Eurasia; the Deputy Director of the Climate Strategy and Implementation Department; Head of the Energy Transition Unit Christian Carraretto; Senior Expert on Regional Policy and Strategy Maira Karasaeva; Regional Policy and Strategy Analyst Aigerim Salykbay; Energy Resources Department Banker Ilyas Akhetov; and interpreter Alexandra Nigay.
Opening the meeting, Bakhytzhan Ilyas noted that the JETP is an important tool for Kazakhstan to achieve its national climate targets, attract ‘green’ investment, introduce cutting-edge technologies and ensure the sustainable development of the country’s electricity sector.
