On October 23, Assein Isaev, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, met with Carl Skau, Acting Executive Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP). This was reported by the press service of Kyrgyzstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Carl Skau thanked the Kyrgyz side for supporting joint projects in social protection and food security. The two sides also discussed ways to reduce disaster risks and strengthen the resilience of people living in mountainous areas to natural and climate-related threats.
The participants explored opportunities to expand the WFP’s activities in Kyrgyzstan, including under the 2025–2030 Food Security and Nutrition Programme. Particular attention was given to the development of school meal programmes, targeted assistance for vulnerable population groups, and improving the climate resilience of regional communities.
Assein Isaev noted that Carl Skau’s visit marked the first visit to Kyrgyzstan by the leadership of the WFP. He reaffirmed the country’s readiness to strengthen its partnership with the organisation and invited Skau to attend the Second Global Mountain Summit, “Bishkek+25,” scheduled to take place in Bishkek in October 2027.
Following the meeting, both sides agreed to continue their cooperation, taking into account Kyrgyzstan’s upcoming membership of the United Nations Security Council for the 2027–2028 term.
