Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar told the President of the European Council, António Costa, that he would not support the hasty admission of any country to the European Union.
According to Report, the Hungarian Prime Minister wrote about this on social media platform X.
The meeting between the two politicians took place on Wednesday evening in Budapest, where Costa had arrived as part of his tour of EU countries to discuss the draft of the bloc’s new seven-year budget.
“I reaffirmed that Hungary does not support a fast-track procedure for EU accession for any candidate country,” Magyar wrote.
He also stated that he expects the EU leadership to resolve as soon as possible the issue of lifting the daily fine of €1 million imposed on Hungary during the term of its previous government.
“I emphasised in my conversation with the President that, particularly in light of the events in Ceuta last summer, Hungary continues to maintain the legal framework and border barriers necessary to prevent illegal migration. Hungary continues to safeguard the European Union’s external borders, and we expect these efforts to be recognised at European level,” the Prime Minister noted.
