The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, has stated that the European Parliament intends to open a representative office in Canada.
According to Report, she posted this on the social media platform X.
She said that the Bureau of the European Parliament had approved the opening of a representative office in Ottawa.
“A more active presence will facilitate parliamentary exchanges on both sides of the Atlantic, with a regional reach extending as far as the Arctic. Europe and Canada are long-standing friends who are writing a new chapter together,” Metsola noted.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is expected to address the European Parliament on 17 September against the backdrop of Ottawa and the EU’s desire for closer ties.
Carney had previously announced plans to begin negotiations on a “unique alliance” with the EU.
