The upcoming visit of Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh to Kyrgyzstan, scheduled for 20-23 July, marks an important milestone in strengthening bilateral dialogue. It reflects not only the growing mutual understanding between the two countries, but also the results of active diplomacy consistently pursued by Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov.

Relations between Bishkek and Ulaanbaatar have long remained more declarative than practical. Although diplomatic ties were established back in 1992, they rarely went beyond protocol contacts. Everything changed in 2023 when Sadyr Japarov visited the Mongolian capital. This visit became the starting point for a new stage of cooperation – one that is more pragmatic, institutional and intensive.

Since then, dialogue between the countries has begun to take on a stable form. Agreements were signed in the fields of education, culture and tourism, and joint programmes and humanitarian initiatives were launched. Kyrgyzstan increased quotas for Mongolian students, and a Mongolian cultural festival was held in Bishkek for the first time. For the first time in a long time, the parties began to talk about real cooperation.
