A presentation of the project to defend the eastern border of the European Union, which will strengthen the border with Russia and Belarus with a total length of 2,300 km, was held at the Rudnikai training ground in Lithuania.

According to Report, this was announced by the press service of the Lithuanian Ministry of Defence.

“Four countries (Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia – ed.) have jointly agreed on the Eastern Border Initiative. The aim of this project is to strengthen the European Union’s border with Russia and Belarus to a depth of 20-40 kilometres by creating modern defensive barriers and systems,” the statement said.

‘The project is based on existing national initiatives – Poland’s Baltic Defence Line and Eastern Shield – ensuring the effective use of resources and avoiding duplication of measures. It connects, synchronises and demonstrates the joint actions of states to protect their borders,’ the ministry explained.

It is reported that the project, scheduled for completion in 2028, ‘includes advanced technologies, including air defence systems and electronic warfare capabilities, other military engineering solutions, and enhanced intelligence capabilities.’
