The most important agenda for international society is humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Because the lives of Afghan public are dependent on humanitarian aid coming from abroad. However, national reserves were captured. The crisis was deepened due to international society did not recognize Taliban regime. The Afghan economy is already on the edge of failure due to freezing of the foreign aids. Covid-19 pandemic and severe drought also contributed to this.
In this sense Ankara Center for Crisis and Policy Studies (ANKASAM), is representing the views of Afghanistan Parwan State University’s Vice-President Dr. Sayed Mobin Hashimi.
Mr. Hashimi, the international media is frequently bringing humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan on the agenda. What kind of steps are taken for this situation’s solution which is followed by international society closely?
In many countries the humanitarian aid issue is brought on the agenda due to humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan. Some states are aiding in cash, some of them is distributing food to specific regions. Especially non-governmental organizations from Turkey and humanitarian aid foundations are aiding food for Afghanistan. Besides the Turks are sending clothes for winter. Some of official institutions of Turkey is aiding as well. However, unfortunately, the aids are not adequate. From all around the world, especially from Turkey, Iran, Arab World and other Muslim countries, we are waiting for more help.
Do you think return of the money belonging to Afghanistan government, which was held in foreign banks, would contribute to solving of the crisis of the country?
The return of the money may solve many problems however it would not guarantee full resolution. Because the release of some amount of money of Afghanistan, nearly 280 billion of USD, held in World Bank is mentioned. However, those are temporary solutions. To solve the economic problems, everything should be normalized. The payment to the state officers, which is not paid around four months, giving warm clothes, coal, wood aid to the poor families, revival of the private sector and development of trade is needed. This would also be possible after the recognition of Taliban regime.
As it is known, every crisis includes some offers inside. Do you think this crisis and search for solution, would contribute to the unification of Afghan public?
If we look from social angle, it is for sure that crises unify people. Crises are not always cause negative effects. Sometimes it may result in positive relations. But the factors that are mentioned here do not unify the public. Because the problem is big and multi-dimensional. Unfortunately, in Afghanistan, no one can guess what will happen in the next month. I personally believe that maybe this crisis will be solved. However, unless the public become aware of the notion of being a “nation”, the problems are going to follow us.
